The winner the $533 million Mega Millions jackpot claims his prize!

Richard Wahl, 47, was the sole winner of a $533 million Mega Millions jackpot on 30 March. On Friday the 13th this lucky winner came forward to collect his astronomical prize at New Jersey Lottery headquarters. Wahl’s mammoth Mega Millions jackpot was the largest lottery jackpot won in New Jersey history and the fourth largest Mega Millions prize, ever.

Wahl chose to take his prize as a lump cash sum of $324 million rather than the full $533 million paid out in 30 payments over 29 years.

“It’s not only life-changing money for me, but I want it to be life-changing money for others: family, friends and people in need,” said Wahl at a press conference while collecting his prize. Watch the full press conference here.

Wahl continued to say that, “We’re a humble family and we’re going to keep our roots.”

He admitted that he plans to use some of his now vast fortune to fulfill his dream of rebuilding a 1963 Corvette. Wahl also plans to give generously to charity as well as help his wife’s family in Mexico.

Wahl is a production manager at a New Jersey food services facility and is not a regular lottery player. However, he says he was inspired to play Mega Millions after a co-worker pointed out that the humongous jackpot would be more than enough to set him up for life. He bought his winning ticket at a gas station in Riverdale, New Jersey. The owner of the station will get a $30,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

He chose his numbers using Quick Pick, which may be one of the reasons that he didn’t have to share his prize. Wahl himself assigns a different significance to his Quick Pick numbers being winners, “that’s why we believe it’s God’s plan.”

What’s your plan? The only way to win a lottery jackpot is to have a ticket. That’s where theLotter comes in! Play Mega Millions online today with an official lottery ticket for your chance to win a life-changing jackpot!

How to Avoid Becoming a Statistic

How to Avoid Becoming a Statistic

“44% Percent of lottery winners had spent their entire winnings within 5 years” is just one of many of statistics about lottery winners that garners great concern with lottery fans. Here are four tips to help avoid becoming a statistic:

Once you have found out that you are the big winner of an amazing jackpot prize, allow yourself time to celebrate with your family. But then, before going to claim the prize contact a financial advisor. The quickest way to lose your money is to be given a big cheque and have no plan what to do with it. A visit with an advisor will help you plan out what you will do with the money once you get it, whether it is to create trusts for your children or investment recommendations.

Coming into a lot of money at once, is guaranteed to make you a target for scammers and jealous acquaintances. Lottery winners tend to find themselves being sued or having people makes claims on their win. Consulting a lawyer and making sure that you are covered for all events is a must.

Buying property that is free and clear is a sure fire way to guarantee that should you go spending crazy that you are not left without a home at the end. Make sure that if you decide to buy a fancy new home, that you set aside a special fund for the upkeep.

Keep things in perspective, don’t alter your lifestyle too much. Remember, what it was like before you had the money. Remember the struggles, the worries and the stress; with these thoughts at the back of your mind, the incentive to not land up back there will be stronger. Donate to charity, don’t cut people who love you and care for you out of your life. If your brother says – what on earth do you need 7 jet skis for? Listen to what he says, the voice of reason will usually come from those close to us.

First Time Dutch Player Wins $15,000 Mega Millions Prize with theLotter

irst Time Dutch Player Wins $15,000 Mega Millions Prize

One lucky player from Amsterdam won $15,000 playing Mega Millions with theLotter ! Believe it or not: it was his first time playing with theLotter ! Make sure to read on, because there’s plenty more to this incredible story that we are happy to share with you, however, to safeguard his anonymity, for now we’ll call our lucky winner K.

He Switched to theLotter and Won Immediately

K. could not have known it at the time, but simply finding theLotter was his first step in his incredible journey to a lottery win! He explains what led him to theLotter in the first place, ‘I’m playing the Dutch lottery (Staatsloterij) for a long time without ever winning anything so I said, “let me have a look at what is possible internationally and especially in the US.”’

It certainly is a good thing that K. looked beyond Holland for lottery success. Once he landed at theLotter , he was off and running! On his very first try, K. matched four numbers plus the bonus number to win Mega Millions’ 3rd prize!

Lucky Numbers, Smart Thinking

Mega Millions’ 3rd prizeK.’s winning entry is pictured above. As you can see, he correctly chose 4 out of 5 numbers plus the Megaball in draw 2017/49 that took place on 20 June 2017. K.’s winning numbers were 2, 15, 49, 63, and Megaball 3. The jackpot winning numbers were 2,15, 41,49, 63, and Megaball 3. There were no jackpot winners, two second prize winners, and 20 third prize winners, including K.!

K. laughed when we asked him how he got so lucky and chalked it up to, ‘perhaps a little magic.’ However, it was not magic but rather smart thinking on K.’s behalf to add the Megaplier to his Mega Millions entry, multiplying his third prize from $5,000 to a very respectable $15,000!

We Make Our Own Luck

It’s easy to look at K.’s story and only see the story of a very lucky player who found success on his first try. But, that way, we’re missing the most important details of K.’s story!

K.’s story is actually one of action and initiative. Fed up with not winning at home in Holland, he went online to theLotter to play bigger lotteries in the US.

Once K. arrived to theLotter, he made sure that if he would win a prize he would win every single dollar available by adding the Megaplier to his Mega Millions entry.

K. absolutely earned his win. You can earn your own win, too! Play Mega Millions, or Powerball, or any other lottery that calls your name, and don’t forget to add the multiplier, if available! Luck can find you, just make sure you’re prepared!

How It Works

Australian Player Wins Aussie Prize at theLotter

More and more Australians are turning to theLotter to purchase their lottery tickets and one lucky Aussie just won big in the Australia – Oz Lotto!

Australian Player Wins Aussie Prize at theLotterJ.W. from Australia won AUD $7,065 (approximately $5,560 USD) in the Oz Lotto draw on 8 August 2017. J.W., who has been playing at theLotter for two years, won a 3rd Division Match 6 prize, just one number short of winning the Oz Lotto jackpot.
The win came on a 12-line auto-renew multi-draw ticket, which entitled J.W. to a 15% discount off the normal price.
J.W. selected the following numbers: 4, 6, 15, 25, 40, 43 and 45.
These numbers were generated in the draw: 6, 15, 21, 25, 40, 43 and 45, along with the additional bonus numbers 19 and 26.
If the “4” J.W. had chosen had been a “21” instead, he would have won the jackpot!

Australians Win Big at theLotter

J.W. is not the first Australian to win prizes playing Australian lotteries at theLotter. R.D., a native Australian, won a division three prize of AUD $6,427 playing the Australia Powerball in May 2013.

Whether you’re an Australian or not, you can win big playing the Oz Lotto at theLotter!

What would you do after hitting the Jackpot? 11 Shocking Lottery Winner Statistics

What would you do if you won the lottery? Would it change your life? Would you move home, leave your job, help your friends or family, or would you keep everything pretty much the same as before, and carry on working in your nine to fives?

We all have pretty fixed ideas about what would happen, we’ve been through the scenario in our heads enough times. And there is no way we’d mess it up like those morons you read about in the newspapers. Heck no. Like the ones that blow all their cash and end up on skid row, or the suckers that keep their nine to five cleaning jobs at Denny’s. But hey, until we hit it big and cash in the US Powerball jackpot (worth a staggering $100 million this week), who can say for sure what we would do? Before moving on to some shocking examples of past winners’ behaviour, it is worth noting that the US Powerball can nowadays be played from Canada as well as other countries!

So what have different lottery winners have done in the past? And what is the statistical likelihood of you doing the same? Of course, this is in no way scientific, and just a bit of fun – but the statistics are based on the answers of 34 real life lottery winners, averaging at 46 years old, with 8 males and 26 females.

When I Win the Lottery….

My marriage won’t be affected.

You’re probably not wrong, with a promising 95% of our respondents staying married to their husbands or wives after winning. Maybe it’s down to becoming super-close after going through probably the most intense and breath-taking experience on the planet, but who knows? Whatever the reason, this heart-warming fact has made us a little bit more optimistic today.

I won’t be any more likely to leave my boyfriend/girlfriend.

The numbers are on your side with this one, with an unbelievable 100% of our sample group staying with their partners after winning. Now we’re wondering why those married slackers don’t pick up their game. Damn quitters.

I will provide for the future generations of my family.

We’re gonna call you a straight up liar on this one, unless you’re one of the thrifty 10% who can keep hold of their money long enough for the third generation to get some. That’s right, a big old 90% of lottery winners have spent up by the time their grandkids come of age, leaving the family fortunes at a big fat zero.

I’ll make the money last a long time.

A long time – that’s a relative concept, right? So let’s just agree on a ball park figure and work from there. Does 5 years sound ok for starters? Ok. Well if you say you would be able to keep at least some of your money past the 5 year mark, you’d probably be right – but not by much. An extravagant 44% of lottery winners have spent all their money within a 5 year period, leaving them with nothing to show for it and one hell of a hangover.

I’ll give some money to my family.

The numbers are on your side with this one. A whopping 83% of winners gave money to their family, which we think is just lovely. We would hate to think that lottery winners become so selfish that they wouldn’t share their luck, and this has justabout restored our faith in humanity.

I’ll definitely give some money to my friends.

While you might be right about this, there’s a surprising twist. Who would you expect to be more sharing and caring, men or women? Who has more close friends, men or women? So which gender would give money to more friends, men or women? Well, men gave money to three friends, on average, while women gave to just one. Come on ladies, share the wealth!

It won’t change anything between me and my best friend.

We are happy to say that you’re probably right on this one. An amicable 90% of the respondents stated that they kept the best friends they had from before their big win. We were impressed with this statistic, as well as the previous two, because it seems that money doesn’t come between important relationships.

I’ll finally get round to hitting the gym.

Maybe you would, but with a mouth-watering 32% of our respondents gaining weight, it seems like some finally got round to hitting the best restaurants in town. This might not be such a bad thing, as it shows they’re making the most of their winnings – and hey, if you can’t dodge that salad bar after winning the lottery, what’s it good for anyway?

I’ll move to my dream home.

Not according to the stats, my friend. Some of the group did move into a new house, no doubt with champagne filled jacuzzis and pet lions guarding the property, but a stubborn 62% of our winners stayed exactly where they were. Home is where the heart is, and we salute those winners who had already found that ideal homestead.

I’ll quit my day job – obviously!

Well this might seem like a sure-fire life choice after winning, and actually the whole point of even playing the lottery, but you may be more likely to keep that job than you think. Only 52% of our respondents actually left their jobs after winning the lottery. This means that the odds on this are justabout even with an eager 48% continuing to set their alarm clock every night. Interesting life choice!

What would you do after hitting the Jackpot?

I’ll quit buying lottery tickets.

Well, maybe you would buck the trend, but you’re a lot more likely to continue buying tickets than not. A bold 68% of lottery winners continue to buy tickets each week, quietly confident that they will hit the jackpot again before long. They even decide to expand their horizons, using the services of an online lottery concierge such as theLotter  to enter the world’s biggest draws, while benefiting from many other benefits such as theLotter  joining syndicates, playing with multi-draws or using systematic forms to boost their odds of hitting it big (again!).

From Humble Beginnings to Incredible Fortune – Four Deserving Lottery Winners

“After the good weather comes the ugly; And after the war, peace.”
(Editor’s note: Or life-changing wealth!)
Charles Cahier (1856)

From Humble Beginnings to Incredible FortuneLife does not always reward those who most deserve it and so it is heart-warming when you hear a story about someone truly deserving winning the lottery. A story (or as it happens, four stories), with such tragedy and yet such a happy ending.

Which lotteries offer such life-changing jackpots that they can lift winners from the direst of circumstances? Whilst all lotteries are capable of changing lives, with a current jackpot of $162 million, the US Mega Millions jackpot definitely holds the trump card! Countless players around the world are getting their tickets online in time for the upcoming draw.

Who will win the jackpot remains to be seen. But we wonder… Will he or she be as worthy a recipient as the four men below?

From the Hell of Kosovo to EuroMillions Winner

From the Hell of Kosovo to EuroMillions WinnerIn the late 90s the horror in what used to be Yugoslavia reached its climax in Kosovo. Some Kosovars were fortunate enough to escape, as was the case of one man who managed to flee to Belgium, and fifteen years after witnessing the horrors of Kosovo, this father of four (who worked as a street cleaner in Brussels) won €168 million in the EuroMillions in October 2016. This may be more than the $162 million on offer in the Mega Millions this week, but then again, should you scoop up $162 million, you’d hardly have reason to complain!

From Civil War in Syria to Scratch-off Winner

From Civil War in Syria to Scratch-off WinnerA Syrian refugee living in the northern suburbs of the French capital has won €1 million after buying €10 worth of scratch cards.

Before arriving in France, the winner owned a small business in Syria, but was forced to flee the country because of the civil war that has displaced almost half of the population and killed more than 250,000 people. The former businessman of 30 arrived in France in 2011 and had worked a series of odd jobs before winning €1 million from the state lotto. The lucky winner then used the money to buy an apartment and he plans to open a restaurant, study French and bring his family to join him.

From a Senegalese Migrant Ship to Winning the Spanish Lottery

From a Senegalese Migrant Ship to Winning the Spanish LotteryAlmost a year ago a Senegalese migrant rescued from a ship by the Spanish coast guard won €400,000 in Spain’s annual Christmas lottery. The winner, named Ngame, stood before the lottery agency, in tears, when he discovered he was holding a winning ticket in his hands. He thanked Spain for saving his life and giving him the chance to play the most popular lottery in the country. Can you imagine a more amazing Christmas gift?

From War-Torn Iraq to Being a US Lottery Jackpot Winner

From War-Torn Iraq to Being a US Lottery Jackpot WinnerFinally, there is the incredible story of an Iraqi who won $6.4 million in the Oregon lottery in the Autumn of 2015 via!

His story reached the headlines in news outlets across the world and since then theLotter has created more millionaires in lotteries such as the Powerball (a man from El Salvador, a Canadian and an Australian each won $1 million in the US Powerball through us in 2016 alone).

So there you have it… Regardless of whether you have experienced difficult times in your life or were born with a silver spoon in your mouth you can look forward to a bright future with a lottery win! To maximise your fortune, go to the biggest jackpots in the world (like the $162 million US Mega Millions) to turn your life around!

How long does it take to get your money after you win the lottery?

Congratulations! You’ve just won the lottery! You’ve beat the odds and correctly picked all the numbers, plus the bonus numbers, and now you are a millionaire!

win the lottery anonymously?

Of course you’re happy, elated, and a million other emotions all at once. However, once this initial tidal wave of excitement and emotions subsides you might also be wondering, ‘how long will it take to collect my lottery winnings?’ Which is a very reasonable question to ask. At the moment you’re holding a winning ticket, a promise that a huge jackpot will be paid to you. However, until you can exchange your ticket for cash you’re going to have to guard that ticket and keep it safe. So, the sooner the better, right? Right.

Every lottery has a slightly different method and timeline when it comes to verifying tickets and claiming prizes. What goes for the UK lotteries isn’t quite the same with US Powerball, Mega Millions, or individual state lotteries. What is constant, however, is that there will be a period of time in which you are responsible for your ticket. Regardless of where your ticket is purchased, it is a good idea to sign it as proof that it belongs to you.

Claiming US Powerball and MegaMillions Prizes

US Powerball and MegaMillions are run by the Multi State Lottery Association, MUSL, which is made up of 33 member lotteries. US Powerball and Mega Millions are both offered in 44 out of 50 states and each state sets its own rules for ticket validation and prize collection. In all states where Mega Millions and Powerball are offered it’s possible to collect any prize less than $599 at a lottery retailer as long as they have the cash on hand to pay out your prize.

For prizes $600 and above differences start to appear between the rules of the different states, however, the general procedure is more or less the same. Your winning ticket will need to be validated by the state lottery and you will have to fill out a claim form. Ticket validation can often be done either by mail or in person. Jackpot winners, as you can imagine, almost never send their winning tickets through the mail and elect instead to bring their ticket to the state lottery commission for validation.

For US Powerball and Mega Millions, there is a 15-day waiting period between the winning draw and when the jackpot will be paid out, as money from ticket sales needs to be collected in order to pay out the jackpot. However, it is still possible to validate your winning ticket in this time, thereby establishing yourself as the winner and absolving you of the responsibility to hold on to your ticket. Once your ticket has been validated all you need to do is sit back and wait to collect your priz

How Camelot Pays Jackpot Wins

Camelot, the operator of the National Lottery in Great Britain, handles things a little bit differently. If you’re holding a winning ticket you need to call a special hotline and give them a series of numbers printed on the ticket to prove the authenticity of your ticket. While this phone call is not a verification, it does get the verification process started. During the initial phone call Camelot will schedule an appointment, at your convenience, during business hours, with their winner’s advisors.

The winner’s advisor’s job is multifaceted. During their visit they will verify your ticket, establish your identity, give you some counseling and financial advice relevant to your situation, offer further legal and financial resources, and finally, pay you your prize via bank transfer. That’s right, in the comfort of your home, or their offices if you prefer, you get a private consultation and a bank transfer right away.

Winners who wish to remain anonymous or want to keep a low profile can even request that Camelot’s winner’s advisors remain discreet by dressing in casual clothing.

All in all, it is typically faster and more convenient for jackpot winners in the UK than in the US. No 15-day delay and home visits for ticket verification and prize payouts are a great welcome to the life of luxury that a jackpot winner will lead. But, even in the UK, there will be a period of time in which the jackpot winner will be responsible for their own ticket.

How Camelot Pays Jackpot Wins

Is it Safe to Play the Lottery Online?

Yes, and in this specific instance it is actually safer to play the lottery online than in person. If you happen to win the jackpot playing the world’s most exciting and biggest lotteries with theLotter, your ticket will be kept securely in a safe in our local office until you, or your attorney, are able to take it directly to the lottery to claim your prize. While most winners are, of course, able to safeguard their tickets until they can be redeemed, there are enough heartbreaking stories of winning tickets lost or destroyed to appreciate the peace of mind that a reputable, professional company can bring to the entire process.

Use Your Time Wisely

Regardless of where you win your lottery jackpot, there will be a period of time, however brief, between discovering you’ve won and actually receiving your prize. This is time that can be used wisely to prepare yourself and your loved ones for the future. Use this time to consult with a financial planner to decide whether you wish to take a lump sum payment or annuity and how to manage your money once it’s in your possession. Speaking with a lawyer can help you settle issues regarding your estate, which will now be considerably more valuable. Discussing with a spouse, partner, or those closest to you about how, when, if, and to whom you’d like to reveal your good fortune is also not a bad idea. In short, it’s a time to prepare for the tidal wave of changes that are coming your way.
